What is hope?
Chambers English Dictionary defines hope as a desire of some good, with a certain expectation of obtaining it: Confidence: anticipation…
To have hope then is to have expectation that something good will happen. Hope is so important that our God is referred to as the God of hope or the God of our hope in the scripture. When a person loses hope he loses the key to living.
Without faith we cannot please God according to the scripture. Heb.11:6. It is also important to know that without hope faith is rendered impotent. Heb.11:1 amp.
In Romans 15:13 (NCV), Paul wrote: “I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him. Then your hope will outflow by the power of the Holy Spirit”.
Trusting in God for the fulfilment of our desire or expectation provokes God to fill us with joy and peace. The Holy Spirit keeps strengthening and empowering us to overflow with hope. Never a time do we succumb to circumstances or situations but our expectation or hope in the God of hope becomes strong by the day. Through faith we are connected to the reality of our desires.
God is the Author of our hope. We are not talking of a dead hope but a living hope from the living God. “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” Rom 15:13. While we are waiting and expecting, God wants our lives to be full of joy and peace.
These ingredients are not what can be produced externally by any means. Nothing and no one can really give you joy and peace, they are products of the regenerated spirit in a man when he comes in contact with Jesus Christ and becomes born again or regenerated in his spirit.
Be a prisoner of hope of according to Zachariah 9:12. A person who has made up his mind never to quit on hoping in God no matter the challenges he may be facing in life. Think of Abraham whom the Bible described as a father of faith; who contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “so shall your descendants be”. Rom.4:18-22. It is very difficult for Satan to defeat a person who s hoping in the mercy of God.
Godly hope is different from the way the world viewed hope. A carnal man that is hoping that something will happen or not is not really hoping. What he is actually saying is that whatever comes is his fate. That is why he is full of complaints and negative words. He acts and reacts according to his senses. But true biblical hope is sure foundation and a springboard for our faith to take off from and actually take hold of the promises of God.
Another word for hope is expectation based on the promises that God who cannot lie has given. Such hope is a constant positive attitude that no matter what the challenges may be, things will change for the better for you.
What God promised Abraham came to pass because his hope in God helped his faith to bring into reality the promise. We must be hopeful and full of faith if promises will become realities in our lives. Both hope and faith are built up by the word of God. Believe God today that things will change for better. God will show up for you. You will never be put shame.
The devil will do anything and everything to steal your joy and peace through circumstance, situations, attacks and manipulations. You must never give in to such. Be like the Psalmist who declared that he would bless the Lord at all times and that His praise shall continually be in his mouth. It is a decision You must make in life. No matter what happens I will praise the Lord. It has been said that if the devil cannot steal your joy, he cannot keep your goods. You will surely recover whatever he has stolen from you life.
The peace of God passes human understanding. It is not obtainable at peace conferences or by personal resolution. It comes from the Lord as we learn to commit our ways into His hand in the place of prayer. You are not to worry about anything but pray about everything with thanksgiving to God for He is alive. His peace will keep your heart and mind strong and stable no matter the storm you may be facing till your victory appears. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Phl.4:6-7. NLB. This is necessary because God knows that the greatest field of battle in life is in our minds.
