take heart

“I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are discouraged take heart. Come, let us tell of the LORD’s  greatness; let us exalt his name together. I prayed to  the LORD, and he answered me, freeing me from all my  fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with  joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. I cried  out to the LORD in my suffering, and he heard me. He set  me free from all my fears”. Ps 34:1-6 (NLT)

Troubles, challenges, tribulations are part of life. Sometimes we try to explain them away and behave as if they are meant for certain group of people. The reality is that every one faces them. However, your attitude will determine what you will invariably become when the dust are finally down.

Hear the word of the Lord from the Psalmist today, “let all who are discouraged take heart”. Do not let your heart be troubled, do not allow what you may be going through change who you are. You are precious to God. He made you in His image and likeness. He fearfully and wonderfully made you. You are His treasured possession; you are very dear to Him.

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and  wonderfully made: marvellous are thy  works; and that my soul knoweth right well”.  Ps 139:14

The glorious destiny you have is enough reason why the devil and his cohorts won’t take chances to watch you achieving anything in life. He is the real enemy of your destiny. Perhaps because of your going through you have been discouraged. To take the next step has been very difficult because of the past failures, disappointments and defeat you have suffered. It is not over until you have your breakthrough. In what ways has the enemy – the devil hit and frustrated you? That is not the end of your life. So long as you are connected to Jesus the Victor of Calvary, The Resurrection and The Life, you are going to rise again.

David, a man favoured of God, who also cultivated his relationship with God experienced victory upon victory over his enemies who were bent to destroy him and see to it that he did not taste the God-ordained throne for his life. At a time the battle was so tough against his life that he thought he might not be able to survive. “And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul” 1Sam.27:1a. But the God of heaven whom he served delivered him from all his enemies especially Saul the king.

What God wants you to have as attitudes in a moment like this:

a) Know Your God. The scriptures said in Daniel 11:32 thus: “… but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits”. Strength to overcome in the day of battle is predicated on your relationship with God and the knowledge of Him. If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour this is the first step you must take. His blood cleanses from all sins. Receive Him today and you will be saved.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive  us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.1
John 1:9
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” Rom 10:13.

b) Never Allow Your Situation To Replace God In Your Life. According to our opening text (Ps.34:1-6), though David didn’t know what would happen to him next, however, he made up his mind to praise the LORD at all times. Praise invites God to your situation because He Himself inhabits the praise of Israel. “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel” Ps. 22:3. When you praise the Lord, you turn the battle unto Him. He is the Lord of hosts, He will fight for you. Praise Him at all times with songs and by speaking His praises through what He has done and who He is.

c) Let The LORD Be Your Boast. Do not put your confidence in any man or anything. The Lord is the only one that cannot fail. He is faithful and His Word is also faithful. Whatever He says is what He does. Through His word you can bodly declare your freedom and victory over the devil, sickness, poverty, sin and the negatives of life. Anytime the devil throws his arrow of discouragement at you, rise up and declare what God has written about your life and situation. You are not a failure. You might have failed in one or two endeavours but that does not make you a failure.

Do not close your mouth and let depression subdue your heart. Take heart and stand for your destiny. Declare that only the word of the Lord shall come to pass in your life. You will make it, live long, be blessed and be a blessing. God’s name shall be glorified through your life. You are coming out of whatever ugly situation you are in. You won’t die in it; your better days are just beginning in the name of Jesus.

He that is with you and in you is mighty. “All your enemies shall go into captivity, those who spoil you shall be a spoil and all who prey upon you will God give for a prey”. Jer.30:16

d) Walk With The Wise: The wise are those who love God and seek Him always. In all they do you cannot but see the trace or acknowledgment of God. “Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; Let us exalt his name together” (Ps.34:3). Who are your companions? Are you a friend to the ungodly, sinners or scornful. No one who is comfortable in the midst of the above negative people ever enjoys the smile or the favour of God. When we are in the company of those who exalt, praise and talk of the greatness of God, we become deeper in our relationship with God. Our faith becomes stronger and courage to possess our possessions is strengthened. Choose the right company today.

e) Be A Person Of Prayer. “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed” Ps 34:4-5. Do not make prayer a spear tyre issue in your life. You cannot rise beyond your prayer life. Prayer is the force that draws God’s ability to help humanity to succeed here on earth. No one receives anything except it be given him from above and to receive you must ask from God. James the apostle made this clear in James 4:2. “You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” (NLT). There is help for you in God, don’t look else where. Those who truly look unto God never suffer shame; rather they are radiant with joy and no shadow of shame will darken their faces. What is your fear today? Write them down and commit them into God’s hand in the name of Jesus, with heartfelt prayer release all and switch over to praise and thanksgiving. You will surely sing a new song. Your trial will soon turn to testimonies. Take heart!

  1. This corrects the notion that Christians are impervious to troubles. This is a holistic guide for the troubled believer

  2. Exactly as its in Romans 8: 35 & 39 and even in Isaiah 40: 31. May God be our fortress in times like this.
