“And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.” 1sam.17:32-37.
Wining the battles of life is not by imitation, it is by revelation. David knew his God and he knew the limit of his enemy. Goliath may be tall, scary, a veteran soldier, a giant, yet he was made by God. He might have been conquering other armies or heathen nations as dogs eating dogs. But carrying the same mentality to disdain and defile the armies of God was a trespass. David viewed the lions and bears coming to steal from his flock as stealing from God. He would do everything to fight and rescue the sheep.
The dignity of the army and the nation of Israel had been stolen. They had been reduced to the same fate like the heathen nations. David could not stand it, therefore his readiness to challenge the enemy and redeem the glory of the land.
USE WHAT YOU HAVE
“And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine” 1Sam 17:38-40.
If Saul and his armour had been in the battle field for about 40 days with the harassment of Goliath resulting to the flight of Israel’s army always, it simply means that what they needed to breakthrough was much more than the armour of Saul. They needed the revelation of their covenant God and His spiritual armour.
David Refused What He Was Not Used To
Many today wont value what God has given them as talent, gifts or opportunities rather they are full of complaints and are intimidated as others are faithful enough to use theirs. Your own ‘armour’ may not look or be sophisticated like that of Saul, but since that is what God has given you, it is enough to bring your Goliath down. Sit down, think
You are not empty. What do you have? What can you do with it? Trust God to start with it, don’t be afraid to start. With God you will succeed.
THE BATTLE OF GODS
“And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.” 1 Sam 17:41-44
Until you come to the understanding as a child of God that whatever touches you is touching the apple of the eyes of God, you will always be at the mercy of the enemy.
You are not ordinary. The precious blood of Jesus has washed you from your sins, and you have been redeemed. The value that God places over your life is seen in the precious blood (the life) of His Son Jesus Christ.
Goliath might have destroyed other nations and their gods, but the God of Israel is the God of gods, the Lord of lords. He is the Almighty. Learn to approach issues of life with a royal mentality. You are a child of the King. You are a king of the King of kings. You are a king. Whatever might be the cause of harassment or intimidation of the enemy against your life shall not stand in Jesus’ name.
Words are powerful. Many are careless in words and in how they handle situations of life. David replied the enemy. He did not allow the words of the enemy to be the last over his life. What has the enemy been saying to you in the recent time about your home, health, children, finances, job or business? Declare what you want to see and do not let the enemy have the final say.
VICTORY FOR ALL
One brave action prompted by the Holy Ghost could mean a victory for all. The man David was on errand but he ended up being the “saviour” of the whole land.
“Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled. And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.” 1Sam 17:51-53.
When the philistines saw that their champion was dead, they turned and ran. Then the Israelites… rushed after them. God has turned the tide against the enemies.
The chased has now become the chaser just because someone dared to believe in his God and acted. What a joy in the camp of the people of God. They gave a great shout of triumph. They instantly turned to be conquerors or more than conquerors because someone loved God, loved his nation and his people so much to ‘lay down his life’ so to say. They would have become captives and slaves but for David.
This pictures what Jesus the Champion of champions did on our behalf by laying down His life. He died our death and through death conquered the devil (a champion over men for long). Now we have the victory in Christ.
The devil, the world, sin, sickness, poverty are now under your feet. See yourself a victor, a champion today in Christ Jesus and the blessings shall be yours.
